ECOLOGY Ecology is concerned with the study of organisms and their habitats. This includes the interdependence of various populations, their impact on each other and their surroundings, the effect of the surroundings on their behaviour, as well as the ways in which the organisms and the environment change in response to each other. A pond and its inhabitants provide a good example of these interrelationships. Flowering of plants also depends on light. pH This determines the acidity or alkalinity of the water in aquatic habitats or the soil in terrestrial habitats. The pH tends to be neutral at a value of 7 and increases if alkaline contents are abundant. Organisms are affected by the pH of their environment. Fresh water mollusks tend to be deficient on waters with a pH less than 6. Wind Winds carry water currents and waves and also rain-bearing clouds. Wind also helps in the dispersal of fruits and seeds and causes pollination in some plants. The drying effect of strong air currents can cause a high rate of transpiration. The fauna and flora of mountains differ due to winds. The windward side of mountains has luscious vegetation while the leeward side is sparsely vegetated. Pressure Pressure varies from the depths of the ocean to the higher altitudes of atmosphere. Atmospheric pressure reduces when one ascends from sea level. The Primary Difference Between Classroom And Online Classes
The primary difference between classroom and online classes is attending class in the classroom with a pre-set schedule. It is a lot easier to attend class online with a busy schedule. You can log on anytime you are available and watch videos, work on homework or discussions. If you had to attend classes, you would have to watch a live lecture in the classroom at a set time. That is the thing I love about Bethel is that I can do it when I have time. During my research, I noticed that the article talked about not having interaction with other students being a problem with online learning because you are not getting direct contact with instructors and classmates. Bethel has come up with a way to compromise that problem. Iââ¬â¢ve learned that Bethel uses the discussion post and respond for the students to interact with one another. It may not be face to face or immediate feedback but it is a way for students to interact with each other. There are a few more differences between online learning and classroom setting. With online learning you have less tuition, a plus which is no commute to school and fewer fees. The case have also focused and have provided justification regarding the two appropriate client education strategies that has to be delivered by the registered nurse for a better outcome of the patient. Moreover the actual aim of this report is to understand how self management of chronic diseases like chronic pulmonary disease can bring about improved outcomes in patients. COPD is normally an umbrella term that can be used to describe a variety of progressive lung diseases like chronic bronchitis, emphysema, refractory asthma and few forms of bronchiectasis. It has been reported that many people just overlook the increased breathlessness and the production of cough, as their normal signs of ageing. COPD can turn into adverse conditions if left untreated. George Polaris, is a 62 years old man, has been admitted into the emergency department with increase in shortness of breath. It was reported that he had fever with productive cough. On admission he was being first treated with type IV antibiotic, but later when he underwent a series of tests and examinations, it was found that he is having chronic pulmonary disease (COPD). After being discharged from the hospital he is being followed up at the local GP clinic. George reports to the registered nurse that he has had several episodes of respiratory distress where he was suffering from shor6ness of breath and cough on exertion. He had a history of gastro-esophageal reflux disease. George said that he was a smoker and generally smokes up to 20 cigarettes a day since he was 14 years old. According to the report George did not have any allergies or alcohol addiction. Current medications include Salbutamol 100 micrograms MDI, 2 puffs as required up to 4 times. Tiotropium 18mcg inhaled by the mouth and Esomeprazole magnesium 40mg. The vital signs includes that his body temperature is 36.7?, which indicates a normal body temperature. His blood pressure is 135/88 mm hg, which indicates a slight high pressure. His pulse beat is 100 beats / minute which indicates a normal heart beat and his respiratory has been reported to be 22 breaths / minutes. In the early stages of the disease, the symptoms may not be properly understood but can develop for years. The symptoms can be understood in the most advanced stages of the disease. The acute symptoms of the COPD are cough with a lot of mucous, shortness of breath. The case study shows that George has been suffering from respiratory problems, since a long time. The other symptom of COPD includes chest tightness and wheezing. Worsening of the COPD may give rise to Pneumonia. A patient having Pneumonia associated with COPD may show symptoms like the fever chills. The report shows that George was admitted with high fever to the hospital which can be linked with the general symptoms of Pneumonia (Asnaashari, Talaei, Haghighi, 2012). All the probable symptoms can be linked with the symptoms of George which indicates that he had been suffering from COPD. Emphysema can also be caused due to the COPD, due to which the air pressure in the alveoli increases. As a result the person feels short ness of breath which increases with time (Suissa, Patenaude, Lapi, Ernst, 2013). According to the case study, George is elderly and is a smoker. He works as a laborer in the construction company and is shortness of breath has worsened. The symptoms had indicated towards bronchitis and he needed a holistic care of approach to treat the conditions. Further as George had been a chain smoker, proper education regarding the ill effects of smoking might create awareness in him, and he might quit smoking. The two potential health concerns for the patient in this paper are mainly smoking and the inhalation of the noxious industrial agents. Smoking- Smoking can trigger flare ups in the COPD. Smoking damage the alveoli present in the lungs and the cell lining if the lungs. A COPD symptom will depend upon the condition of the lungs. The patient can be taught how to use the bronchodilators and to report accordingly to the physician. The patient should be taught to take the prescribed medications that would help him to quit smoking, in due time and report to the doctor regu larly. A registered nurse can take up various strategies to impart knowledge to the patient. One such is providing information about the disease. A workshop can be conducted inside the health care setting taking the elderly patients and the pathophysiology of the disease can be demonstrated. The patients can be taught how to use the nebulizers and the bronchodilators. Self management of the techniques and the tools would help him to get rid of the problems. The patient can be taught the ways to quit smoking (Vestbo, et al., Adherence to inhaled therapy, mortality and hospital admission in COPD., 2009). Medications can be recommended that will help them to quit smoking. As the nurse is dealing with the elderly patients, care should be taken to provide a holistic care of approach to the patient. A patient can develop several self management strategies like eating of well balanced meals, use of the nicotine replacement therapies, eating of low calorie snacks, other stress relieving beverages can be had instead of cigarettes. There are special chewing gums that can help one to quit smoking, although everything should be taken after consulting with the caregiver. As sudden cessation of any kind of addiction without proper preparation may give rise to some adverse effects. A patient should in every way suppress the willingness to have cigarettes. Patient can look over the internet regarding the ill effects of nicotine. A registered nurse can provide proper education to the client regarding the prevention of the clinical condition (Roche, Chavannes, Miravitlles, 2013). A patient can be encouraged to take healthy foods; other beverages can be taken to relive stress other than cigarettes or other addictives. The strategies taken up by the registered nurse for ceasing the smoking habits in the patient would be appropriate as smoking can trigger flare ups in the COPD. If the patient can control his smoking habit, it would not cure COPD, but the intensity of the symptoms will get reduced. The patient can carry face masks to prevent the allergens or should always try to use the mask while working on the construction site. The hydration of the body should be maintained. The patient should take enough fluids to maintain the electrolyte balance of the body. The patient should adhere to the medications that have been provided. Client should definitely use the bronchodilators as and when required. Since, the major problem that this client is facing is related to respiratory distress and cough. Therefore the patient care should be focused on how to prevent this. The knowledge of different exercises and the use of bronchodilators and the humiditors would definitely give relief from the incessant coughing and breathing trouble. Conclusion The above case study and its analysis have helped to provide knowledge about the different types of the chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. In 1994 the PA inherited an educational system from the Israeli Civil Administration that was completely destroyed by the occupation. In 1994 the PA took this bad situation and tried to handle it with care, it began with a crisis management policy that was called THE FIVE YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLAN, this plan aimed to maintaining the high access rates to basic education and to increasing secondary education enrolment rates. The plan foresees important well focused and cost effectively managed efforts in the areas of curriculum development, textbook development and production in service as well as pre-service teacher training. Approximately $100 million in donor assistance was spent on education infrastructures between 1994 and 1999, and the FIVE-YEAR PLAN envisages donor commitments of a further $45 million per annum, for a total of US$ 225 million for the 2001-2005 periods. According to the FIVE-YEAR PLAN there are 1800 schools that needed developing in the West Bank and Gaza, the PA had access to 1400 schools. Since the beginning of the second uprising, the plan was completely interrupted by the reoccupation of the West Bank and Gaza. The Israeli army has intentionally destroyed schools and the educational centers that were established to control the bad situation in 1994. For example, the Israeli Army has damaged over 400 schools in Hebron and south of Gaza, which represents 22% of the primary and secondary schools, the damage ranges from broken windows to the total destruction of schools. Battered Women Syndrome BATTERED WOMENS SYNDROME: FICTION OR REALITY. Introduction To understand battered womans syndrome one has to know why and how one becomes a ââ¬Å"battered woman.â⬠For a woman to be labeled battered woman has to undergo two complete battering cycles which has three different stages. The stages begins with tension-building, followed by explosion which also known as acute battering incident and then culminating in a calm, loving interval which is known as the honeymoon stage. Battered woman stays in insulting relationship because women are resistant during honeymoon stage and they tend to be peacekeepers in a relationship and they are responsible for marriage work, unfavorable economic costs and its more dangerous to leave than staying before threats by batterer to kill her or the children and this result to psychological paralysis. According to Tennant, 2001 battered woman syndrome is a psychological and behavioral pattern which is a symptom in those women living in rough treatment relationships. There are various characteristics of the syndrome such as woman believing that it was her fault for the violence to happen, she is unable to put the responsibility of the violence elsewhere, she fears for her life and for her childrens and she has an illogical belief that, the abuser is omniscient and omnipresent. This syndrome can be more of a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder rather than being just a mental illness (Tennant). Most women who experience domestic violence suffer from battered women syndrome and they have to undergo two cycles; cycle of abusive which involves repeated abuse which can be either generational or episodic whereby generational is passed down by exposure from parents to children and episodic is a repeated pattern in which two people in the family are involved either child abuse, spousal abuse or elder abuse. (McMahon, 23) ODonovan, 1991 stated that, stages for battered woman syndrome includes; Denial stage which occurs when a woman denies to her or to others that there is a problem, they have excuses why their partners have an abusive happenings and they generally believe the abusiveness will happen again. Stage two is guilt and the woman acknowledges that in their relationship there is a problem and recognizes she is an abuse victim and she blames herself for the incidents and she begins to question her character and she will try to live up with her partner. Stage three is enlightenment, this begins when the woman begins to understand that no one deserves a beat and the beatings she receives are not necessary and then comes to realize that her partner has a problem and she then stays in the relationship with future hopes for a change. Stage four comes when the woman realizes that her abuser has a fixable problem and she realizes that there is nothing they can do to assist him and then she decides to take another step of leaving the spouse and starts a new live. (ODonovan, 219) US Department of Justice, 1996 outlined that, there have been a battered women defense which is a legal defense for the assaulted or murdered people who was suffering from battered person syndrome and the defense is invoked by women. Battered women syndrome is as a result of legal advocacy and it owes the existence of legal advocates needs to support and rationalize claims from the battered women. Battered women syndrome has been used in a diverse assorted cases ranging from ideal self-defense case to the more narrative prosecutorial syndrome use. Courts use the relevance of the syndrome to back up honesty of womens belief in use of deadly force for her mental incapacity for establishment of a necessary mental objective. Battered women syndrome has been employed in criminal cases and experts have to qualify to testify about the syndrome. Some beliefs show that, battered women syndrome is a fact and others show is a fiction and the fact ones are powerful for they influence the way a battered woman, family and friends encounter and the general public respond to the various instances of battering (McMahon, 25). Battered women syndrome fiction beliefs that, battered women hate and they have to learn that not all men are bad but according to the fact they dont hate men they hate being battered. Mans home is his castle and it shouldnt be interfered with but the fact is battery is an offense and no one has the right to beat or abuse another. Womans beating comes as a result of provoking or nagging her spouse but the fact remains that, people are beaten for a reason and people have no right to violently express their anger. A person still stays with her abuser even after being battered likes being beaten. Beating hurts and no one is fond of being beaten but a woman may decide to continues staying with her abuser due to the fear of further violence, because of religious reasons, financial hardships, emotional attachments and family beliefs that they should stay together. (McMahon, 26) In addition, there has been a fiction that upper and middle class women dont often experience battering like poor women but the fact is that, domestic violence can happen in any socio-economic levels for the rich women are accessible to resources and the poor women make use of the community agencies and they are more visible. Once a battered woman, always a battered woman, this is false belief which has been with people but the fact is that, whereas some battered women have been in one or more abusive relationship, those women who experience domestic violence are least likely to enter to another abusive relationship. Battered women syndrome claims that, battered women have psychological trauma and they are responsible for the violence and men and women should be all accountable for their violence actions. (McMahon, 30) According to ODonovan, 1991 lawyers and judges are indebted to become better consumers of knowledge because battered women syndrome have been originally put in place of disappointment, aggravation, and sometimes anger over domestic violence. Domestic violence worldwide is very real, and an epidemic extent according to reports. Battered women syndrome has been a psychological-styled diagnosis whereby its a womans ill health provoked by husbands battering and the defense for the syndrome now spins around her ironically alleged helplessness and mental deficiency. Battered women syndrome lacks a scientific and reliable technical base and this make it to fall under disuse. (ODonovan, 225) In todays world many women are beaten by their spouse or boyfriends and several violent cases have been reported. Battery causes injuries to women more than even rape, because many miscarriages happen as a result of battery than medical situations and many women die from battery. The battering effects vary and the psychological impact is defined using a general symptoms and women who are battered react differently to violence and these responses may be emotional through fear, sadness and anger, beliefs and attitude changes towards others and they have psychological dysfunction or distress. Womens response to battery is based on violence and abuse, context and environment in which the woman should respond and heal from and who is the battery victim. (Tennant) As argued by McMahon, 1999 women with battered women syndrome are viewed as flawed, disordered, damaged or abnormal in a way. Despite the fact that many battered victims have negative impacts from the act, the syndrome language makes women battered syndrome in a pathology. Medical conditions of battered victims are not gender specific like the law which is bias in self-defense. Domestic violence results to physical abuse and the depressed is not able to take independent measures which enables him/her to escape the violence. This is the reason why many people doesnt seek assistance, leave the abuser or fight the abuser but they can use force to protect themselves and they may end up killing their abuser due to the life threatening situations and the abusiveness. Conclusion Battered women syndrome is considered as a form of post traumatic stress disorder which is recognized as a psychological condition which describes a constant domestic violence victim and for one to be categorized as battered has to undergo through two cycles and the stages of the syndrome. Battered women syndrome is a fact for many have experienced it through domestic violence and even the law has dealt with such cases. Propaganda is when someone uses allegations, ideas, or rumors to further their own cause and hurt someone else. I do believe that the Romans used this method to make themselves and their empire look better. The Romans might have been some of the first rulers to use propaganda, but since their time we have seen many political leaders use the same methods to make themselves achieve a higher level of affection from the people under them. à à à à à The first sign to me of their propaganda was their architecture. First, I believe the gigantic statues and buildings represent the idea that the Romans had wealth because they could afford to build and decorate such an extravagant thing. Second, I think they were also supposed to portray that they had high intelligence because they could create the architectural wonders that had never been done before. Lastly, I think that they wanted every one to believe their army was undefeatable because most of their statues or monuments portrayed massive victories in battle. à à à à à I think that the characteristics that they portrayed helped them in their propaganda by making the people think that the leaders must be worthy because they were able to have all of these things. I think the main reason for this is all the architecture of the government was built long before they came into office. I took notice that when the President addressed the nation during the first few hours of the War he was sitting in his office not in the pressroom. Why did the New Zealand government offer Warner Brothers incentives to film ââ¬Å"The Hobbitâ⬠in New Zealand? Analyse how this will affect the New Zealand film industry and New Zealand society. Warner Brothers, one of Hollywoodââ¬â¢s most famous studios, was founded in 1923 by four actual brothers: Jack, Sam, Harry & Albert Warner. On April 4, 1923, with help from a loan given to Harry Warner by his banker Motley Flint, they formally incorporated as Warner Bros. Pictures, Inc. I believe that production of H0bbit movie is benefit for New Zealand economy and New Zealand Government provide that incentives to Warner Brothers. Warner Brothers is the front of any entertainment industry with its films to television, home entertainment/DVD, and inter-active creativity. New Zealand has a reputation of being in the Top Ten filming locations in the universe. Warner Brothers choose to make the film in New Zealand because they know that New Zealand infrastructure is pleasing and natural . New Zealand is an open economy and it is cost-effectively workable and attractive for large budget international productions. Firstly, it is important to know that what kind of advantage to New Zealand with the Hobbit movie. New Zealand has a both advantages comparative and absolute. Comparative advantage means ââ¬Å"A situation in which a country, individual, company or region can produce a good at a lower opportunity cost than a competitor.â⬠(Gans, King, Stonecash, & Mankiw, 2011) And Absolute advantage means ââ¬Å"The ability of a country, individual, company or region to produce a good or service at a lower cost per unit than the cost at which any other entity produces that good or service.â⬠According to new Law New Zealand have low labour cost means lower opportunity cost. And New Zealand has land, resources and pervious knowledge. For this two reason New Zealand have both advantages. Warner Brothers has reached a deal with the New Zealand government to keep The Hobbit in New Zealand. As part of the agreement, the government will ââ¬Å"introduce in parliament legislation sought by Warner ââ¬â¢s that would clarify the employment status of film industry workers.â⬠It is being presumed that the intended effect is to, ââ¬Å"make unionization of the film industry more difficult or impossible. ââ¬Å"Ever since Jacksonââ¬â¢s LOTR trilogy put New Zealand on the map, so to speak, the country has benefited greatly from the rise in tourists. Indeed that has been factored into a ââ¬Å"long-term strategic partnershipâ⬠the country has struck with Warner Brothers which will see joint promotion of New Zealand as a film production and tourism destination. The incentives provided to Warner Brothers committed more New Zealand taxpayer money to the movies. (Cheng, 2010) As well as broadening the criteria for its large-budget incentive program ââ¬â which will give WB an additionally rebate of up to US$15 million ââ¬â the NZ government will also provide up to US$10 million for marketing costs. On top of the obvious benefit of keeping The Hobbit on home ground, New Zealand will also host one of the world premieres for one of the films. All this just goes to show just how important The Hobbit is for New Zealand. It has been said that the production will pump U.S. $200 million into NZââ¬â¢s economy. (Cheng, 2010) It is important to know the reason as to why the incentives were offered to Warner Brothers. It is stated that ââ¬Å"the Key Government thinks that this little country can and should afford to pay these subsidies to a giant foreign corporation.â⬠(Roger, 2010) It was highly noticeable of the government when it cowardly agreed into Warner Brotherââ¬â¢s demands for limited and striking subsidies saying they were worth it because New Zealandââ¬â¢s opportunity to grow in the economy was at stake as other countries waited in the line for ââ¬ËThe Hobbitââ¬â¢ movie. The Government was under so much pressure from the other film businesses as rivalry was intense from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and many more countries as they all wanted a movie like ââ¬ËThe Hobbitââ¬â¢. That was the reason the incentive of changing labour laws was undertaken in such an urgency as the government did not want to further deviate expenditure of public money while having to fight back to match the massive tax breaks offered by other countries. Warner Brothers received tax subsidies of $100 million and ââ¬Å"government agreed to give up to $34 million of tax breaksâ⬠(Cheng, 2010) through civility of New Zealandââ¬â¢s tax payers. More compromises were approaching as the Government eluded the standard democratic process to move forward with Parliament legislation that undermined the Employment Relations Act, and also benefited the international film company with $25 million. The government flaunted this as triumph for the film industry in New Zealand. The New Zealand government or national party is ideologically placed on the right wing of the spectrum. Right wing means In politics, right-wing describes an outlook or specific position that accepts or supports social hierarchy or social inequality. Social hierarchy and social inequality is viewed by those affiliated with the Right as inevitable, natural, normal, or desirable, whether it arises through traditional social differences or from competition in market economies. It typically accepts or justifies this position on the basis of natural law or tradition. Therefore favors free trade, globalization and open markets. They also want more FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) such as the Warner Brothersââ¬â¢ Hobbit investment. (rejuvenation) The NZ Film Industry will be affected both positively and negatively. ââ¬Å"A 2008 report found that film and television industry injected $2.5 billion into NZââ¬â¢s economyâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (TVNZ-One news, 2010) The positive thing is that the more contractors get to keep their jobs; New Zealand has been able to build its flexible status again after the boycott scenario with The Hobbit. If the movie was not made in NZ then there would have been long term damage to the NZ Screen production sector and the economy. The negative consequence is that Film industry will be affected by the reductions in rights of NZ workers in Film Production as the Warner Brothers do not want to go through any cases regarding employment regulations after losing a case in the Supreme Court during their previous movie production. Warner Bros. has closed its office in New Zealand. The distribution office shut down at the end of May although Warner Bros. reaffirmed its commitment to business in New Zealand and, they said the work would be outsourced to a local company. The shutdown will raise questions in New Zealand because the Government changed employment law and provided tax breaks to get Warner Brothers to make The Hobbit there. For that The Prime Minister John Key said, ââ¬Å"The Hobbit films have created 3000 jobs. They were crucial to New Zealand for our movie industry; it was a very positive step that the Government took. Iââ¬â¢m not sure what has happened in Auckland, but I donââ¬â¢t imagine itââ¬â¢s many jobs.â⬠Warner Bros. have had an office in New Zealand since 1947. (News, 2012) If the Hobbit was move from New Zealand than tourism is decrease and most of societies and their livelihood based on the jobs in tourism sectors are may be close and itââ¬â¢s affected very badly. One society in particular would have been drastically affected and thatââ¬â¢s the people in Matamata near Waikato region. This would have been a major hindrance as after the Lord of the Rings movie, that place had been made world famous with its Hobbiton set. Although itââ¬â¢s been seven years since the release of The Lord of the Rings, Matamata and the society persist to bring in benefits after the production of The Lord of the Rings attracting more than 200 000 people each year. So by providing incentives to Warner Brothers government has saved the local societies from being drained out of tourism revenues. Changes to labour law were considered unacceptable and unfair law change. The New law was seen to create a default position, categorizing all film production workers as independent contractors. With my evidence now I know I have clear my doubts about what kinds of incentives are provided to the Warner Brothers. I am used the different sources and itââ¬â¢s quite helpful for increase my knowledge on globalization infusion on our economy, government role in economy, etc. I agree that there is an on-going debate with National party in the Parliament since the Green and Labour party continue to oppose the changes of the Employment laws that accommodate the foreign transnational companiesââ¬â¢ demands which affect the tax payers either directly or indirectly in our country. The evidence have however raised a question for me and that is whether the NZ Government that poses a nation-state will be able to keep hold of its decision making powers or whether the power will be soon shifted in the hands of dominant international corporations. Treatments of Depression essays When people deal with finding a treatment for depression many just think of anti-depressants like Zoloft or Prozac. But, due to the negative side effects of anti-depressant pills, depressed people are turning toward other alternative treatments. A few alternative treatments include the herb St. Johns wort, the use of placebos, some form of exercise, transcranial magnetic stimulation and cognitive behavioral therapy. Although these alternative treatments are not as popular as anti-depressants they are very beneficial to everyone. Although Prozac and Paxil are the top treatments of depression, many people find their side effects to be disturbing. Cardiovascular problems are one side effect in which people experience change in blood pressure or heart rate. In addition gastrointestinal upset causes nausea, diarrhea, constipation or vomiting. Also, neurological difficulties include confusion, hallucination, numbness and seizures. Significant weight changes are also another side effect. Lastly, sedation, which is where a patient experiences anxiety, sleep disturbance and agitation is another side effect of anti-depressants (Relieving). Consequently two Wisconsin women have experienced these side effects. Christen Holcombe and Linda Gollin, have filed a lawsuit against GlaxoSmith-Kline, the makers of Paxil for not warning patients of their side effects which included nausea, sweating and agitation and that the drug can be addictive. They are joining hundreds of other patients who have sought help from Paxil (Held) . Another lawsuit in West Baton Rouge Parish was where 250 clients filed lawsuits against GlaxoSmith-Kline for inadequately warning patients about the drugs addictivnes (Kern). All of these side effects and how addictive the anti-depressants are make many depressed people find alternative treatments to depression.
